According to reports in the Spanish media, Robert Lewandowski has reached an agreement with Real Madrid which will see him move to the Spanish capital in the summer.

Lewandowski has had one of the best seasons of his career with the Bavarian giants this past season and in recent weeks, speculation has been rife regarding his future at the Allianz Arena. It was reported earlier in the week that Lewandowski was in talks with Real Madrid over a possible summer switch to Los Blancos.

Now a report in Spanish daily AS claims that the Polish star has agreed to a move to Madrid in the summer. The striker has reached a pre-contract agreement with the Champions League winners and the deal will see Lewandowski pocket an estimated €25m per season. He will move to Spain after the upcoming Euro 2016 in France, where he will be leading the Polish attack.

Lewandowski moved to Bayern in the summer of 2014 after four hugely successful years at rivals Borussia Dortmund. Under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp, he helped Die Schwarzgelben conquer the Bundesliga, winning every domestic trophy possible and scoring over a 100 goals for them in the process. He also helped them to a Champions League final, where he would suffer heartbreak against current employers Bayern Munich.

The 27-year-old has found the net 42 times this season for Bayern in all competitions in just over 50 appearances this season, scoring 67 goals in 100 appearances for the Bavarian giants in total. After winning three major trophies with the club, he may feel a change of scenery is required to win the elusive Champions League.

The end for Benzema?

Real Madrid vs RCD Espanyol
This raises doubts over the future of current first-choice striker Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is unlikely to settle for a place on the bench and a move to the Premier League may be on the cards.

The France forward is in the peak years of his career and is good enough to start for most teams in world football. There is no doubt of his ability and there will be no shortage of suitors for the 28-year-old if Real Madrid look for a sale.

In his seven years at the Santiago Bernabeu, the forward has not only managed to hold on to his starting spot, but has ensured that players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale have profited from his link-up play. Benzema has scored 161 goals over the course of his Real Madrid career and has helped them win eight major honours during that time, including two Champions League trophies.

It is shaping up to an increasingly interesting summer with big names already switching between big teams. Benzema has three years left on his contract and will command a huge transfer fee.  It is not often that a striker of this calibre is available in the market, however, and if Real Madrid decide to sell, many top teams around the world could compete for his signature — including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, who are both on the lookout for a striker.
