Manchester City announced the completion of Ilkay Gundogan’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund for £21m.

Manchester City got their summer spending started with the signing of Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. There were concerns earlier that the deal might not go through with the injury concerns that the German had. The midfielder is currently out of action due to a dislocated knee.  But if everything goes to schedule, then Gundogan should be ready for the first-team from August end or early September.

It is believed that Gundogan’s reason for choosing Manchester City was the fact that he admired and respected the philosophy and playing style of Pep Guardiola.

“After five successful years, my time in Dortmund is over,” Gündogan said in a statement released on his twitter account. “Special thanks to my coaches Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel. I had a great time with them and advanced to a player of the German national team.

“The reason for my transfer is the great opportunity to join Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. Guardiola asked me to go to Manchester and convinced me with his philosophy. I believe this is the right step for me at the moment. Under his lead, I want to keep improving my skills as a football player.”

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Gundogan in a somewhat dramatic fashion.

To which then, Manchester City confirmed the signing.

Manchester City fans were understandably jubilant as they got news of the first new face under the Pep Guardiola regime.

However, rival fans were quick to point out his injury concerns which currently rule him out of the Euros and the likelihood of getting injured in the future.
