Liverpool have joined the race to secure PSG midfielder Javier Pastore’s signature if reports from the French media are to be believed.

Pastore is a frustrated figure at PSG, getting only 10 league appearances so far in the current Ligue 1 campaign of which half were as a sub. In fact, he has made 11 appearances from the bench, while getting just 10 starts in all competitions this season.

There is a lot of competition in the PSG midfield as the club have a number of quality players in that spot at the moment. The likes of Marco Verratti, Adrien Rabiot, Blaise Matuidi and Thiago Motta are all vying for a spot in the starting XI.

Pastore had some hope of getting regular starts when Verratti was suffering from a long injury spell earlier this season. However Blanc decided to pick Rabiot instead of Pastore, increasing the 26 year old’s discontent at the club.

With the Argentine looking for a move away from the French capital, Liverpool had sent their scout Kevin Hunt to the Parc des Princes in order to monitor Pastore’s performance in PSG’s 4-0 win over Rennes, according to French outlet France Football.

Although PSG had paid €42 million for Pastore back in 2011, the Ligue 1 champions are reportedly willing to sell the Argentine for a much lower sum. Pastore is currently rated at €25 million by Transfermarkt, but the Reds might have to shell out a bit more than that due to interest from Juventus.

Lallana’s position under threat?

Liverpool FC vs Arsenal FCSummer is coming, and Jurgen Klopp’s long-awaited squad overhaul is also possibly coming with it. The Liverpool boss has not yet had the chance to sign the players of his choice, and will definitely make a number of changes to the squad. One player who could lose his place in the team after Pastore’s potential arrival is Adam Lallana.

Both are a similar type of players who can play both on the wings and in midfield. However, Lallana has come in for some criticism for his inconsistent performances this season. Pastore, on the other hand, could prove to be a much better alternative, if Liverpool do manage to sign the 26 year old Argentine.
