Manchester United will face stiff competition from other European clubs in their attempt to sign Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

In the past few seasons, Manchester United have spent big during the transfer windows. But more often than not, the signings have not proven to be successful or made an immediate impact on the team. The club, now, is focusing on players who will slot straight into the team and start performing immediately.

In this endeavor, the club are looking to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer, according to Goal. The striker has had a great season so far, scoring 37 goals in 44 games, and United could certainly use such a player in the current setup.

But a signing of such class won’t come cheap and Manchester United have been told that it would take no less than £70 million to take him away from Dortmund. And that’s not the only concern either. Real Madrid have also shown an interest in signing the forward, which could mean United might be left disappointed in their efforts to complete the transfer

Battle between United and Madrid

For Aubameyang, staying at Dortmund would make perfect sense, especially since reports suggest he is happy playing under manager Thomas Tuche; but he also wants to play in all the big leagues of Europe. Having already played in Italy and France, the only two destinations left are England and Spain.

If it comes down to a battle between United and Madrid, Aubameyang would most likely opt for the Spanish club considering United don’t look like they’ll be in the Champions League next season. Added to that, according to Goal, he also promised his grandfather that Madrid would be one of the clubs that he would play for.

The inability to offer Champions League football also affects other potential clubs from England like Chelsea and Liverpool, who would have loved to have the star striker in their ranks.

Dortmund, for their part, wouldn’t want to lose another player, especially after Mats Hummels has told the club that he wants to leave. Over the past few years, the club has been losing important players, like Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, and losing Aubameyang would be a big blow.
