Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette in a bid to increase their squad depth.

Lacazette’s future has been the subject of speculation with PSG and Tottenham being linked with a move for the Frenchman. The 24-year-old, who has a contract with Lyon till 2019, has scored over 70 goals for the club since breaking into the first team in 2010 as an 18-year-old.

According to a report in L’Equipe (via SPORT), his stellar campaign with Lyon hasn’t gone unnoticed by Europe’s elite. Eighteen goals in the league, with 3 games to go, and 2 in the Champions League have seen him been linked with Premier League high fliers West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur as well as La Liga’s joint leaders Atletico Madrid.

Lacazette was also named as the Player of the Year in France’s Ligue 1 for the 2014-15 season, which is no small feat considering the likes of Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic usually top the scoring charts.

Lacazette to La Liga

There is not a football team on this planet that would not have place for Luis Suarez in their starting XI and Barcelona are no different. The Uruguayan has played nearly every game this season for Barcelona and the Catalan giants are looking for a striker to provide backup for El Pistolero, in order to reduce chances of injury and to avoid over-working him. Barcelona have also been linked with compatriot Kevin Gameiro, but their main target is Lacazette.

Lacazette is sure to provide able replacement for the Uruguayan, but the concern would be that of playing time. At only 24, Lacazette’s best years are ahead of him and sitting on Barcelona’s bench might not be the best way forward for his career.
