After weeks of speculation, Roma will give club legend Francesco Totti a new contract which would see him stay at the club for 25 years.

Francesco Totti’s future at the club as a player has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, as it was being rumoured that the club hierarchy wanted him to retire and become a director at the club. But Totti doesn’t want to stop playing for his beloved Roma just yet.

However, according to a report in Football Italia, Totti is about to sign a new one-year deal with Roma, by the end of which he would have served the club as a player for 25 years.

The long-serving captain has made crucial contributions to Spalletti’s side in recent weeks, most notably in his game against Torino where he came off the bench late in the game and led the team to victory with a brace.

25 years of Francesco Totti

In recent weeks there were rumours of Totti having a ‘bust up’ with manager Luciano Spalletti after the Atalanta game, but the two have since then put their differences aside to focus on finishing the season strongly. It was beginning to look certain that this would be the Totti’s last season at the club, with the lack of game time and rumoured issues between him and the manager.

The announcement of a contract extension for the 39 year old is expected to come soon, and Roma fans will be elated to see Il Re di Roma lead the team out for another season and one which is certain to be his last ever in a Roma shirt. Il Gladiatore will leave a 25 year legacy behind for future footballers all over the world to aspire towards, having represented his beloved Giallorossi for a quarter of a century.
