The speculation surrounding Jose Mourinho’s future had recently acquired a French taste, as Ligue 1 giants PSG were rumored to be interested in signing the Portuguese manager in the aftermath of their Champions League quarter-finals exit at the hands of Manchester City.

PSG manager Laurent Blanc was feeling the heat after the Parisians were knocked out of the Champions League. However, according to reports emanating from France, the PSG board have not lost faith in the manager who has led them to four consecutive Ligue 1 triumphs and helped mould the club into a global giant.

“The contract was extended for two years, he will stay with us next year,” said PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, according to Goal.

“When we lose, we lose, it is a collective responsibility.”

Jose Mourinho snubbed

Jose Mourinho has been out of a job since he parted ways with Chelsea towards the end of last year. The Portuguese manager is considered to be one of the best in the world, but has gone into a sabbatical till the end of the season. Mourinho has declared that he will be back next season, however it remains to be seen which club he will join.

The ‘Special one’ has won leagues in Portugal, Spain, Italy and England, as well as winning the Champions League twice, with Porto in 2004 and Internazionale in 2010. A number of clubs, including AS Roma and Inter Milan, reportedly approached him to join them right after he left Chelsea, but Mourinho will only make a decision in the summer.

Manchester United calling

One club Mourinho has been incessantly linked with is Manchester United. The Portuguese has long been interested in the Manchester United job, but was not held in very high regard by influential figures at the club. All of that has changed after a plodding, low scoring and unimpressive season this time around, which has seen the Red Devils crash out of the running for the Premier League and fighting to latch onto a Champions League spot for next season.

The speculation surrounding his arrival at Old Trafford has reached fevered pitch. Last month, it was being reported that Mourinho had signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United, and now it looks like he is all set to take over before the start of next season. We’ll all have to wait till the end of the season to see if this is officially confirmed though, as for now it’s all shrouded in secrecy.
