Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes Arsenal midfielder and countryman Aaron Ramsey has the ability to play for European champions Barcelona.

Ian Rush is Wales’ all-time top goalscorer and was one of the best strikers in the world in the 80’s and early 90’s. A Liverpool legend, the Welshman scored 346 goals for the Reds and also played for Juventus, Leeds United and Newcastle United.

The 54-year-old recently gave his opinion on Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey as part of an extensive interview with Wales Online.

“He’s a match winner, his energy is vital and I think he’s a big part of Arsenal’s play,” Rush said of the Gunners’ star.

“It’s no coincidence that people talk about him and Barcelona, he’s one of those that could easily play in that league.

“Yeah, I think the way Barcelona play suits him. Aaron likes to get forward and score goals, and his sense of duty in midfield would be less there than it is at Arsenal. He would be a great pick if he went somewhere like that.”

Ramsey and Bale crucial to Wales’ Euro 2016 hopes

The Wales team has been riding an unprecedented wave of success, overtaking England in the FIFA World Rankings for the first time in their history in September 2015. Although the rise of the Welsh is a team effort, it has been helped along the way by the emergence of talents like Swansea defender Ashley Williams, Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen and Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey.

However, the two biggest names behind Wales’ success are Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. While one is the world’s most expensive player and part of one of the world’s best attacks at Real Madrid, the other is a fixture in midfield for a top Premier League club. Ramsey has scored five goals and provided four assists for Arsenal since his return from injury in late November and will be a key playmaker for Wales at this summer’s Euros in France.
