Gonzalo Higuain has been in impressive form this season, and is currently being linked with a move to some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Most recently though, the Argentine striker has been tipped for a big money transfer to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been struggling to find the back of the net in recent matches, and with star striker Wayne Rooney injured, they seem to be in dire need of a goalscorer. Although that role has been taken up in the last couple of matches by youngster Marcus Rashford, the Red Devils would soon need a regular scorer who can convert even the half chances for the side.

For this purpose, Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention towards Napoli’s star striker, looking for a summer move to the Old Trafford, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

Huge hike in Higuain’s price

Having scored 25 goals in 27 Seire A appearances, Higuain is in incredible form right now. In fact, his brilliant form has helped Napoli challenge for the league title for the first time in many years. This has resulted in a lot of attention being directed towards Higuain, which would surely have increased his price manifold.

The Argentine is currently rated at around £43 million by Transfermarkt. However, he is likely to cost much more than that, due to his recent exploits in the Italian competition. According o reports from Italy, Higuain is likely to cost  around £62 million.

Is Van Gaal trying to replace Rooney?

The Manchester United striker’s recent performance has hinted that age might be catching up with him, given a horrendous start to the season. Rooney was on very poor form in the first half of the season, drawing a lot of criticism from the fans and critics alike.

Nevertheless the Manchester United captain has shown great spirit to come back to form after the turn of the year, and has ably lead his side to a few victories. Unfortunately, his season seems to have been cut short with a serious knee injury. The addition of another striker could put more pressure on Rooney, and that might bring out better performances from the Manchester United captain in the future. However, Rooney is the kind of player, who can play in multiple positions, and it would be wrong to assume that Higuain’s arrival would spell the end for Rooney’s time at the club.
