The topic of who the best footballer of the current generation is has been raging on for years now, and Real Madrid legend and manager Zinedine Zidane has had his say over who’s better — Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Zidane’s long association with Real Madrid, it is hardly surprising that the France World Cup winner has opted for Cristiano Ronaldo over FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. Zidane had moved to Real Madrid from Juventus as a player, and has stayed in the city ever since, going on to work behind the scenes at the club, before taking up the role of the first team manager at the Santiago Bernabeu, earlier this year.
The 43-year-old, who has also won the Champions League and La Liga titles with Real Madrid as a player believes that Ronaldo is the best player in the world — in spite of Messi winning more Ballon d’Or accolades than the Portuguese forward.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best. People can say what they like about Cristiano Ronaldo, but in his heart he’s a good person,” Zidane said to Mexican outlet Récord. “Messi is the rival and that rivalry is great for the footballing spectacle, it’s what the fans want to see.”
Los Blancos the best attackers in La Liga
Purely based on the number of goals scored by his team, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane might just have the right to say that his star man is the best player in the world. The BBC (Bale Benzema Cristiano) combination has helped Los Blancos score 66 goals so far in the league, which is the highest number of goals scored in La Liga so far this season.
However, Ronaldo by himself has been on a bit of an indifferent form this season, and has come in for some criticism for that. What is incredible though, is the fact that although he has not been having the best of seasons, Ronaldo has scored 19 goals so far.
