Juan Mata might be enjoying life at Manchester United right now but Chelsea FC fans have not forgotten the great things the Spaniard did during his spell at the club. Stamford Bridge applauded Mata as he was substituted in the second half as a gesture of appreciation for the Spaniard.

Mata was one of the favourites of the Chelsea fans during his two and a half year stay at the club during which time he won the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League with the Blues. The midfielder thanked the fans following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea last week.

“It’s always special for me to play in Stamford Bridge. My feelings are different in a day like this, but once the referee blows the whistle for the kick-off, in my mind the only goal is to win, to give everything you have to help the team and to enjoy on the pitch,” wrote Mata on his personal blog on Kicca, after the match.

“I have to say that I’m deeply grateful for the reception from the Chelsea fans and their applause when I was substituted. Moments like these ennoble football and it’s something you keep in your memory forever,” he continued.

Zouma innury mars a thrilling match

While the match between Chelsea FC and Manchester United was a highly entertaining encounter, the injury sustained by Blues defender Kurt Zouma marred an otherwise entertaining spectacle.

The Chelsea defender was left in agonizing pain on the pitch after landing awkwardly on his feet. Mata was one of the first players to rush to Zouma’s aid when this happened, and recalls the incident vividly.

“I don’t want to forget about Kurt Zouma’s injury, I was very close to him when it happened. He left the pitch on a stretcher and screaming in pain and I hope it’s not a very serious injury and he can be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

It has been ascertained that Zouma suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out of action for six months. This means that he will not feature for the France national side at Euro 2016.

These kind of injuries normally end up altering a player’s career. However, Chelsea and France fans will be hoping for the best, especially since Zouma is just 21 years old and has plenty of time left to make a strong comeback.
