The veteran manager has opined that, apart from fans of the other three teams in the top four, everyone else in the country are firmly backing Leicester City to win the Premier League title this season.

Wenger was hoping to end his long wait for another Premier League title this season, but his hopes were dented by bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and of course the surprise package of the season Leicester City who have all proven to be tough opponents. The Frenchman recently stated that he believes every neutral fan in England is now supporting the flying Foxes.

“The advantage they have until the end of the season, apart from our fans and the City fans and Tottenham fans, the rest of the country is behind Leicester,” he said, according to goal.com.

Money isn’t everything

Wenger also echoed the sentiments of a number of fans who feel that Leicester City have proved a big point about football and life in general, by talking about how he admired the team for managing to achieve success without having to breaking the bank for it. He also took the opportunity, tongue in cheek, to defend his own reputation as a frugal manager.

“You reproach me about not buying big names but you will support the team who have no big names”, he said.

“You always ask me, ‘Why do you not buy a big-name?’ but Leicester is a fantastic example that football is not only about just spending the money.”

Foxes riding the high

With their recent 3-1 victory over Manchester City, Leicester City now hold a five point advantage over second placed Tottenham Hotspur. The Foxes have now firmly established themselves as the team to beat this season when it comes to the Premier League title, and they’ve done it while scoring as many goals as the star studded Manchester City team.

2015-16 is all set to go down in history as the season of the underdog, with Leicester City riding on the high of a dominant league campaign and showing no signs of slowing down.
