Manchester United are now in serious danger of not qualifying for the Champions League, and this can have some serious repercussions on the Club’s finances for the next season.

The Red Devils currently have a mega contract with kit sponsors Adidas who are to pay the Glazer-owned side a whopping £75 million every season. However, there is a clause in the contract between the two parties that states that the German kit manufactureres would not be entitled to pay the full amount, if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League in any particular season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The agreement reportedly states that Manchester United would be entitled to only £52.5 million, if the Red Devils do not make it to Europe’s premier club competition. That, coupled with other sponsor deals, prize money, and broadcast  rights means that Manchester United are set to lose out on a total of around £75 million, if they fail to finish in the top four this season.

This could land a sucker-punch on their plans to make top signings next summer, and could turn out to be one of the main reasons why the Manchester United fans are calling for manager Louis van Gaal’s head right now.

Van Gaal’s season worse than Moyes’s?

David Moyes has the dubious record of being the first Manchester United manager in the Premier League era, under whom the Red Devils have finished anywhere below the top three. At this point of that fateful season however, Moyes’s team was in fact three points ahead of the current Manchester United side. While that may point at things to come, this season has been a really topsy-turvy one, and a run of bad results for the teams above them, and a few good results for the Red Devils could see them getting back into more familiar territory.
