The football that Manchester United is playing right now may not be too inspiring, but sponsors Adidas are already said to be dreaming of a bright future at the Old Trafford — a future that reunites Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and the Spaniard himself has come out and confirmed to the media that he wants to manage a club in the English top tier.

This seems to have gotten Manchester United’s sponsors dreaming, as they are lobbying for the club to reunite both the player and the coach under the banner of the Red Devils, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Both Messi and Guardiola had been together at FC Barcelona, producing some of the finest football that the continent has seen. Guardiola has also seen Messi become one of the best players in the world under his reign at the Catalan club, and their reunion is something that Adidas are reportedly willing to pay heavily for, according to reports.

Why Adidas wants a Guardiola-Messi reunion at the Theater of Dreams

While Guardiola has been strongly linked with a summer move to one of Manchester United’s biggest rivals, Manchester City, it has also been reported that the Citizens would use the current Bayern Munich manager as bait to lure Messi in as well.

This would be highly counterproductive for Adidas though, as Manchester City are currently sponsored by Nike, and would mean that both Guardiola and Messi (who are both sponsored by Adidas) would be sporting the Nike logo on the City match day and training kits . Thus, it is believed that Adidas are strongly pushing the bosses at Old Trafford to mastermind a Guardiola-Messi reunion.
