East Bengal have finally been able to complete their lineup of the four foreign players by announcing the signing of Frenchman Bernard Mendy.

Now, Mendy has impressed one and all with his stellar performances in the Indian Super League (ISL), which he had won with Chennaiyin FC. The Frenchman has been a rock at the heart of the Chennaiyin FC defence in the two ISL season, helping to make the Supern Machans one of the most potent teams in the league.

The 34-year-old is expected to join the East Bengal squad quite soon, after he gets his work permits to play in India, according to Goal.com. Getting the work visas should not be much of a problem for Mendy, who has already played in the ISL twice.

Can Mendy cover up Bright Lukman’s absence?

East Bengal was originally set to sign striker Bright Lukman as their fourth foreign player, in order to bolster their attack. However, Ghanaian side Ebusa Dwarfs have refused to sell the player after they reached top flight football in the country, which effectively meant that the deal would not fall through.

Now, it seems that manager Biswajit Bhattacharya has decided to go for a defensive option, after his side demolished Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 on the weekend.
