Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez make their full debuts for Manchester United while Cristiano Ronaldo is benched as the Red Devils face Brighton & Hove Albion.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a bold selection call by deciding to bench Cristiano Ronaldo for their Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. The Portuguese was in contention to start despite his lack of minutes in pre-season due to the injury to Anthony Martial, but Ten Hag has opted to keep him on the bench.

Instead, it seems like Marcus Rashford will be leading the line for Manchester United, with support coming from Jadon Sancho from the right flank and potentially Bruno Fernandes from the left. New signing Christian Eriksen makes his competitive debut for the Red Devils and will likely occupy his preferred No. 10 role on the pitch.

Fred and Scott McTominay are the preferred options in the middle of the park for Manchester United against Brighton. James Garner and Donny van de Beek provide the manager options from the bench.

There is a debut for Lisandro Martinez in defence, who partners Harry Maguire at the heart of the Red Devils’ backline. Fellow new signing Tyrell Malacia finds himself on the bench, with Luke Shaw preferred over him at left-back while Diogo Dalot starts on the right. David de Gea gets the nod in goal.

Manchester United Starting Lineup: De Gea, Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Sancho, Eriksen, Fernandes, Rashford.
