Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has started with his preferred centre-back partnership against Newcastle United, while Nuno Tavares and Emile Smith Rowe return.

Gabriel and Ben White seem to have passed a late fitness test as they start for Arsenal against Newcastle United in a crunch Premier League match. Both centre-backs were huge doubts ahead of the clash, but seem to have recovered in time to feature at St James Park.

Cedric Sores drops to the bench as Takehiro Tomiyasu returns to his favoured right-back spot. Nuno Tavares is selected to start at left-back as Mikel Arteta places his trust in the youngster.

There are no changes in central midfield as Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka continue their partnership. Martin Odegaard takes his place in the No. 10 role as he looks to orchestrate the attacking side of things.

Bukayo Saka starts on the right side of the attack, while there is a change on the other flank as Emile Smith Rowe replaces Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian is deemed good enough only for the bench despite positive performances recently. Eddie Nketiah continues to lead the line for the Gunners as he continues to keep Alexandre Lacazette out of the lineup.

Arsenal Starting XI: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tavares; Elneny, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Nketiah
