Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek return, while N’Golo Kante captains the side for Chelsea’s game against Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Thomas Tuchel has made four changes to the side that started in the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League as Chelsea get set to lock horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s in a Premier League encounter.

There are no shuffles in goal, with Edouard Mendy keeping his place between the sticks despite a disastrous performance against Real Madrid. In front of the Senegalese goalkeeper, Chelsea seem to be lining up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Andreas Christensen the right-back.

Marcos Alonso starts as the left-back, with Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva pairing up at the heart of the Chelsea defence. Up ahead in midfield, Jorginho drops out of the side. And with Cesar Azpilicueta omitted from the matchday squad altogether, N’Golo Kante captains Chelsea against Southampton.

Kante lines up alongside Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the middle of the park, with Mason Mount Chelsea’s creator in chief. Kai Havertz will spearhead the Blues’ attack versus Southampton, with Timo Werner completing the starting eleven. Reece James, Jorginho, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are among the handy options on the bench.

Chelsea Starting Lineup: Mendy, Christensen, Silva, Rudiger, Alonso, Kante, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Mount, Havertz, Ziyech
