Cristiano Ronaldo dons the captain’s armband while Phil Jones makes a rare start as Manchester United prepare to take on Wolves at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick has made two changes to the side started in the 3-1 win over Burnley last week as Manchester United get set to play hosts to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. There is no shuffle in goal, with David de Gea starting ahead of Dean Henderson.

The only two changes come in the defensive unit, with Phil Jones making his first start of the season. Jones is partnered by Raphael Varane at the heart of the Manchester United defence, with Rangnick having no other centre-back at his disposal. Out wide, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw keep hold of their spots.

Up ahead in midfield, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay retain their positions in the double-pivot, meaning Fred is placed on the bench again. Donny van de Beek is the other backup option in midfield for Manchester United.

Bruno Fernandes is not reinstated to the starting eleven despite serving his suspension. Instead, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood continue as the playmaking pair behind the two strikers, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. Ronaldo dons the captain’s armband in the absence of Harry Maguire.

Manchester United Starting Lineup: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Jones, Shaw, McTominay, Matic, Greenwood, Sancho, Ronaldo, Cavani
