Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has axed Romelu Lukaku while Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante are back in the lineup against Liverpool.

Chelsea have made several changes to the side that failed to get past Brighton in midweek for their Premier League encounter against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The biggest news coming out of the camp is that Thomas Tuchel has decided to completely omit Romelu Lukaku from the matchday squad in light of his recent comments in the media.

With the Belgian international out, Kai Havertz gets the nod in the No. 9 role against Liverpool. The German international will be supported by Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic in the attacking unit, with Callum Hudson-Odoi dropping out to the bench.

There is a recall into the starting lineup for N’Golo Kante after he was only used as a substitute in midweek due to fitness concerns. The French midfielder slots in alongside Mateo Kovacic in the centre of the park, with Jorginho dropping to the bench. With Reece James and Ben Chilwell unavailable, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso start in the wing-back roles.

At the back, Thiago Silva is back after recovering from his injury. He replaces Andreas Christensen, who is struggling with a back issue. Trevoh Chalobah also gets the nod, with Antonio Rudiger completing the three-man defence that is shielding Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea Starting Lineup: Mendy, Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso, Mount, Havertz, Pulisic.
