Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner will pair up at the top but Thiago Silva has been left out as Chelsea get set to take on Manchester City in the Premier League.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has made quite a few changes to the side that took the field in the club’s last Premier League contest against Tottenham Hotspur, for the big game versus Manchester City.

The first big change comes in goal where Edouard Mendy returns after missing the last couple of matches due to injury. Thiago Silva has been surprisingly left out of the starting XI, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger forming the three-man backline for the Blues. Reece James and Marcos Alonso line up as the two wing-backs.

Furthermore, Tuchel has decided to go in with an extra body in the middle of the park for this contest, fielding all three of his top midfielders in N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, meaning the formation changes from the usual 3-4-2-1 to a 3-5-2. The injury-enforced absence of Mason Mount may have played a role in this tactical switch by the Chelsea boss.

At the top, Chelsea fans will get to see summer signing Romelu Lukaku pair up with Timo Werner in a two-man strike partnership that could prove to be too handful for Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Starting Lineup: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, James, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Lukaku, Werner.
