Thiago Silva is set to make his Chelsea debut, while Kai Havertz starts again as the Blues prepare to take on Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round.

Frank Lampard has made wholesale changes to the side that started in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League this past weekend as Chelsea get set to lock horns with Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round. The first change comes in goal, where Willy Caballero has come in for Kepa Arrizabalaga, in what was a shuffle that had already been confirmed by Lampard.

The big news of the day comes in the form of Thiago Silva’s Chelsea debut. Silva takes his place at the heart of the defence, with Fikayo Tomori being his partner. Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta starts for the first time this season, taking his place in the right-back slot. On the opposite flank, Emerson Palmieri comes in for Marcos Alonso.

Up ahead in midfield, Mason Mount is one of only three players who have retained their spots from the game last weekend. The second one is also a midfielder, with Mateo Kovacic starting in the middle of the park. However, Ross Barkley comes in for Jorginho to make his first start of the new campaign.

The third and final player to keep his place from the game against Liverpool is Kai Havertz, who starts for the first time in the Carabao Cup. Havertz seems to be starting on the right wing, with Callum Hudson-Odoi coming in on the left side of the Chelsea attack. Finally, Tammy Abraham leads the line for the Blues against Barnsley.

Chelsea Starting Lineup: Caballero, Azpilicueta, Tomori, Silva, Emerson, Barkley, Kovacic, Mount, Havertz, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi
