Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen to make wholesale changes to the Manchester United starting eleven from the one that secured a win against Crystal Palace on Thursday.

The team selection might come as a big surprise to many, with Ole opting for a three-man defensive setup. Eric Bailly comes into the lineup to partner Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the back. Brandon Williams has recovered and starts on the left side in an advanced position, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka acting as the right wing-back.

It is in midfield and attack that Ole’s team selection would face the ire of some United fans. Facing a strong Chelsea squad in a cup semi-final, Ole has chosen to rest Paul Pogba, with Fred coming in to partner Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes in what looks like a 3-4-1-2 setup.

Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have also been rested by the manager, with Daniel James given a rare chance to impress from the off since the restart. Much of the responsibility will be on Marcus Rashford’s shoulders, however, with fans hoping the lockdown hero can emulate his performance from earlier on in the season against Chelsea.

Manchester United Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Maguire, Williams, Matic, Fred, Fernandes, James, Rashford
