Juan Mata makes his first start of the season while Andreas Pereira replaces Anthony Martial as Manchester United prepare to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made three changes to the side that was beaten by Crystal Palace last weekend as Manchester United get set for their game against Southampton. Two of these changes have been forced by injuries, with Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial unavailable.

Shaw has been replaced by Manchester United captain Ashley Young, who will don the armband instead of David de Gea against Southampton. The rest of the defensive unit is unchanged, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka being the right-back, while Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire form the central defensive partnership, with de Gea manning the goal.

Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay retain their places in the midfield double pivot, meaning Nemanja Matic misses out once again. In front of them, there are two further changes. Martial’s spot has been taken up by Andreas Pereira, who is likely to slot in on the right side of the Manchester United attack.

Juan Mata is the final change in the side, with the Spaniard coming into the side in place of the faltering Jesse Lingard. Daniel James takes his favoured place on the left flank, while Marcus Rashford will lead the line against Southampton. The Manchester United bench also has a flavour of youth, with Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong the backup options.
