According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have held initial discussions with Benfica over the £38 million signing of central defender Victor Lindelof. The Swede has been a mainstay in the Benfica defence and will be a huge miss should negotiations progress between the two clubs.
The 22-year-old is highly regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Primeira Liga and is held in high accord by former United player Lars Jesper Blomqvist. The treble winning left-winger stated that Lindelof perfectly fits the bill for Jose Mourinho’s side and will be an ideal signing for them. He also said that the Swede drew comparisons with former Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand.
Lindelof has played in all but one of his side’s matches this season and has been instrumental in maintaining the second-best defensive record in the country. He will undoubtedly bolster the United ranks and add a bit of solidity to the injury-laden back line at Old Trafford.
