A half-fit Lionel Messi was the wrecker-in-chief in Barcelona’s resounding 4-0 victory over Manchester City

Pep Guardiola suffered his joint-worst defeat as a manager, and the man primarily responsible for the drubbing was his own former player, Lionel Messi. The Argentine had just recovered from an injury which kept him out for almost 20 days, but that didn’t stop the four-time Ballon d’Or winner from scoring a majestic hat-trick last night, his 37th for the club.

Messi was directly involved in all the four goals scored by Barcelona, scoring the first three while assisting the fourth. The Argentine now has 47 goals and 28 assists for club and country in 2016.
