Only a few months after an unceremonious sacking by Premier League side Everton, Roberto Martinez has been announced as Belgium’s head-coach.

According to the BBC, the Beligum FA announced on Wednesday that they have appointed former Premier League manager Roberto Martinez as the new head-coach of the national side. Following Marc Wilmots’ disappointing run in-charge at Euro 2016, Martinez has been seen by the FA as a viable successor to the Belgian.

However, the last few years have not been to good for Martinez as he has been relegated from England’s top-tier in 2013 and has also endured a torrid term at Everton.

Thus, his appointment shocked a number of football fans across the globe:

While there were some who were questionably happy about the Spaniard’s appointment:

Everton striker Lukaku was also mentioned a number of times on social media.
