Transfer rumors have emerged claiming that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are interested in Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen. Fans on Twitter are now having a gala time ridiculing the media for coming up with something as far fetched as a transfer between the two bitter rivals.

It was more than half a century ago that a transfer took place between Manchester United and Liverpool, with Phil Chisnall moving from the former to the latter in 1964. To find a transfer from Liverpool to Man United, one has to go even further back in history, when Allenby Chilton made that rare move, in November 1938.

Now the midfielder dubbed the Welsh Xavi, who now looks more like the Welsh Pirlo, is being linked with a move to Old Trafford from Anfield after his tenacious performances in the European Championships. However, Red Devils’ fans were quick to troll the rumor and play down any chances of this move actually happening.

We wonder what Allen’s compatriot, the manager who brought him to Liverpool and dubbed him the Welsh Xavi, Brendan Rodgers would have to say about this. His parody Twitter account surely has an insightful comment.
