Liverpool may have lost at Anfield, but the aggregate 1-1 score meant that they qualified for the Capital One Cup Final after edging past Stoke City in the penalty shoot-out.

Marko Arnautovic cancelled out Christian Benteke’s first leg goal with a 45th minute strike to help Stoke City clinch their first victory at Anfield since 1959. It turned out to be a bittersweet night for the Potters though, as they went on to lose the penalty shoot-out and get knocked out of the Capital One Cup.

Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet silenced his critics during the shoot-out, pulling off two saves and denying Peter Crouch and Marc Muniesa, while Joe Allen scored the winning goal for Liverpool.
