We provide potentially marketable betting tips for Gameweek 17 of the Premier League featuring Chelsea vs Manchester City as the Match of the Day.

The New Year is upon us and the first Gameweek of 2021 promises to be an electrifying one. Everton and West Ham kick us off in 2021 in a top-half clash with both sides flying high right now. The other Friday fixture sees Manchester United take on Aston Villa in another top of the table matchup.

A free-falling Tottenham side will be put to the test again as they host Marcelo Bielsa’s tactical workhorse, Leeds. Sheffield United will hope for better fortunes in 2021 as they visit Crystal Palace in search of their first win in the 2020/21 Premier League. Brighton have entered the relegation dogfight and could be in danger of entering the drop zone if they lose at home to Wolves on Saturday.

Arsenal will have the chance of entering the top half if they win at West Bromwich Albion and other results go their way. Newcastle held Liverpool to a goalless draw and will look to do the same against Leicester on Sunday while Fulham have an in-form Burnley to deal with.

The big game of the weekend, though, is the bout between Chelsea and Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s City are on a roll again and Chelsea have fallen off quite an extent. The away side will have the chance to leapfrog Chelsea with a win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Liverpool will have to be wary of a tricky Southampton side as they visit St. Mary’s on Monday.

A game that could be won by either team, with both Manchester United and Aston Villa coming into it on the back of a good run. However, Manchester United just have that extra oomph about their play and their 9-game unbeaten run gives them the edge.

Expect a low scoring game, with United to come out on top, albeit only narrowly.

Favourable Tips

1. Manchester United to win @ 1.75

Hot Ones

1. Manchester United to WIN to NIL @ 3.60

Tottenham vs Leeds

Ideally, Tottenham would have been heavy favourites. But, their recent results see them in a freefall and Jose Mourinho would love to arrest the rut in the New Year. Leeds are a hard-working side that will throw tactical curveballs at Spurs. However, if it comes down to an open game, Tottenham will come out on top.

Favourable Tips

1. Tottenham to win @ 1.72

Hot Ones

1. Under 2.5 Match Goals @ 2.75

West Brom vs Arsenal

Sam Allardyce has already held Liverpool to a frustrating draw and West Brom do look reinvigorated after his arrival. Arsenal have only just resumed winning and will have to be wary of having their guard down on Sunday. Expect another cagey encounter, with West Brom likely to keep Arsenal down to a maximum of one goal. A draw is a real possibility.

Manchester City are THE in-form side right now in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side have started churning together their results and City will now have the opportunity of possibly entering the top four if they win against Chelsea. Frank Lampard’s men have suffered the Blues of late and will be the underdogs at Stamford Bridge.

Hot Ones

1. Manchester City Clean Sheet – YES @ 3.50

Southampton vs Liverpool

Liverpool have been held to two frustrating draws and now face a real possibility of the chasing pack catching up to them. Jurgen Klopp would be wary of Southampton, who love to play possession football but are equally good on the counter thanks to Danny Ings, Che Adams and Nathan Redmond.

Klopp would want his frontline to start firing again as the only difference in the two draws has been the lack of goals for Liverpool.

Favourable Tips

1. Liverpool to win @ 1.61

Hot Ones

1. Correct Scoreline – Southampton 1-2 Liverpool @ 9.00
