The new season is upon us and with it, the bookmakers are set to offer a wide variety of fields to punt on for the avid football followers that partake in betting activities.

The first weekend of the Premier League throws up interesting matchups. Liverpool get the season underway on Friday at Anfield against newly promoted Norwich City. Manchester City start their campaign away at West Ham United. Burnley and Southampton, who were both embroiled in the relegation battle last season, will look to get a head start this time around as they take on each other on Saturday at Turf Moor.

Aston Villa’s return to the Premier League sees them go up against Tottenham, while Sheffield United face a comparatively easier opposition in the form of Bournemouth.

Sunday pits two London sides away to historic grounds. Arsenal travel to St. James’ Park to face Steve Bruce-led Newcastle United. Chelsea, on the other hand, are up against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which is the premier fixture of the first matchday of the 2019-20 Premier League. Let us now move on to the tips for each of the ‘Big Six’ matches.

For all the storylines of a David vs Goliath encounter to kick off the Premier League campaign, the reality couldn’t be further from it. Norwich dominated the Championship and played some exquisite football. Now, whether they can replicate their style against the very best of teams, including Liverpool on Friday, remains to be seen.

Liverpool haven’t improved upon their squad that won the Champions League and finished a close second to Manchester City in the 2018-19 Premier League. The first game is often the toughest and it will be interesting to see how the two teams fare. For the law of differentials, we are going with a win for Liverpool. But, the reality could be very different.

Probables:

1. Norwich Asian Handicap +2.5 @ 1.700

2. Under 3.5 Match Goals @ 1.80

Outside Chance:

1. Full Time Result – Draw @ 10.00

West Ham United vs Manchester City

A fixture that could be an intriguing one on Saturday. West Ham have made interesting acquisitions and have definitely improved their squad further. Manchester City have brought in placeholder signings to replace ageing stars and to increase competition for places. This fixture will depend on whether West Ham can get hold of the ball for long periods and enough number of times.

Probables:

1. Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.95

2. Over 3.5 Match Goals @ 2.20

Outside Chance:

Tottenham are clear favourites in this fixture. But, Aston Villa will be keen to get off to a positive start. Even if the Villans are unable to get points off of Tottenham, a spirited performance could set the tone for the rest of the campaign. Villa have acquired so many players and it will be interesting to see who makes the starting eleven among the new arrivals.

Probables:

1. Tottenham Asian Handicap -1.5 @ 1.970

2. Both Teams to Score – YES @ 2.00

Outside Chance:

1. Over 4.5 Match Goals @ 4.50

Newcastle United vs Arsenal

If there’s one club that has an air of negativity around it, despite shattering their club record, it is Newcastle. Rafa Benitez has gone and Steve Bruce isn’t as credible as the Spaniard. Arsenal, on the other hand, have improved their midfield and attack and are on course to improve their defence as well.

It is a straightforward result we are staring at, with the Gunners likely to blitz their way through St. James’ Park.

Probables:

1. Arsenal to win @ 1.72

2. Over 2.5 Match Goals @ 1.80

Outside Chance:

1. Arsenal Asian Handicap -1.5 @ 3.100

Manchester United vs Chelsea

Another club that has had negativity surrounding their fanbase is Manchester United. The Red Devils have improved their backline, which, along with David de Gea is now one of the best in the league. But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have had a brilliant pre-season compared to Chelsea and are likely to come in with an advantage over the Blues.

Expect a narrow win for Manchester United and perhaps, their first clean sheet of the season, with Chelsea likely to struggle in attack.

Probables:

1. Manchester United to win @ 2.10

2. Manchester United Clean Sheet – YES @ 2.75

Outside Chance:

1. Manchester United Asian Handicap -1.5 @ 4.000

There are many matchups other than the fixtures for the ‘Big Six’ that represent value for money. For one, expect Sheffield United to come away from Bournemouth with at least a point. Watford are favourites going into the match against Brighton.

Three remaining fixtures pit clubs against each other that had a similar predicament last season. Burnley haven’t exactly improved on their squad and could have it tough against Southampton. Everton look comfortable favourites to clinch a point or three at Selhurst Park. Leicester City and Wolves should play out an entertaining fixture with lots of goalmouth action.

Probables:

1. Burnley vs Southampton – Southampton Asian Handicap 0.0 @ 2.000

2. Leicester vs Wolves – Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.90

3. Watford to beat Brighton @ 1.90

Outside Chance:

1. Bournemouth vs Sheffield United – Full Time Result – Draw @ 3.60
