Real Madrid thumped Shakhtar Donetsk 4-0 in their opening UEFA Champions League game, as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to take his tally to 8 goals in the last 2 games.

Ronaldo had gone the first four games for club and country without a goal. However, the goal glut has returned with the Los Blancos talisman netting 5 against Espanyol at the weekend and 3 against Shakhtar last night.

Ronaldo now has an incredible 4 hat-tricks in his last 6 Real Madrid competitive games. However, he chose to play down his achievement, stating that the team winning the last two games was more important than his goalscoring exploits.
