As the Premier League announces it’s nominees for the Player of the Month Award, there is one massive surprise in store for everyone.

While we would all agree with the nominations of the likes of Jamie Vardy, Troy Deeney (3 goals), Ross Barkley (3 goals, 2 assists), Harry Kane (4 goals), and Romelu Lukaku (5 goals, 2 assists), one name seems to be baffling one and all — Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian international was only included in Liverpool FC’s starting XI after regular centreback Mammadou Sakho was injured. Lovren’s inclusion seems to have baffled one and all, as football fans took to Twitter to express their surprise at this choice.

Here are some statistics that should give you an idea of how bad this choice could possibly have been. Lovern has made a total of FIVE tackles in the month of November. Let’s put that statistic into perspective now. Lovren’s fellow Liverpool FC defender Alberto Moreno has made 17 tackles in November.

Still think Lovren should be on that list? Well, here’s a couple of stats for someone who did not make the six-man shortlist. Mesut zil scored one goal and set up two more, in November.
