Jorge Mendes, the agent of Ballon d’Or winner, has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is a consummate professional and he will retire at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo, who has enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid, winning two Ballon d’Or awards in the process, has said on record that he would like to end his career in Brzail.
But Jorge Mendes, the agent of the Portuguese superstar, has said that his client has good amount of football left in him and he will finish his career at Real Madrid.
“I’m almost certain Ronaldo will retire at 38 or 39, because he’s got a lot of years in him yet. We all know he’s a total professional, the kind of person that really looks after himself,” Mendes was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Marca.
Jorge Mendes also praised the attitude of Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that he is a ‘thorough professional’.
“You all know that he’s the best example I can give of a professional, he’s a person who takes great care of himself.”
Meanwhile, another player who is being linked with an exit from Real Madrid is midfielder Asier Illaramendi. Reports coming from Spain had claimed it yesterday that the Basque midfielder is close to joining Athletic Bilbao.
However, Illaramendi has stressed it today that he wants to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his place in the starting XI.
“Today, the club has not said anything about my departure,” Asier Illaramendi told reporters on Thursday. “I want to stay at Real Madrid. I’m very happy at this club and in this city. I’m only looking towards this Saturday’s game.”
Real Madrid are set to complete the signing of Lucas Silva in coming days, with Illaramendi – who is behind Toni Kroos, Isco, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez in the pecking order at Los Blancos – likely to be sold to Athletic Bilbao to recover some money.
But Illaramendi said in his interview that he has not heard anything about Lucas Silva.
“Lucas Silva? I don’t know anything about him, the club have not told me anything.”
