Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers clearly denied interest in Memphis Depay.

The 21 year-old whose summer signature has officially been confirmed by Manchester United and PSV was also heavily linked with Liverpool over the last few weeks.

There were reports saying the Dutchman was impressed with the club’s vision for the future and the lack of Champions League wasn’t going to be a problem. But the player decided to make a move to Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United and the news obviously hasn’t settled well with the Kop faithful.

Brendan Rodgers has gone on to confirm that the Reds weren’t ever interested in the starlet and that the club has other priorities since there are already plenty of wingers at the club.

“It wasn’t something that was ever one we were interested in,” Rodgers told a press conference on Friday to preview Sundaya s Premier League clash against Chelsea.

“He is a young, talented player but we already have four wingers at the club: Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic.

“We have other priorities we are looking at through the course of the summer but with the players we have in those positions, particularly on the left side, we are quite well stocked.”

But PSV’s technical director Marcel Brands has said that Liverpool, were in fact, in the running for the winger but he decided to move to Manchester United, a club where he knows former Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal.

Netherlands training

Brands said, a Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player. They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United.

“United contacted us a few weeks ago but the direct actions to the club and the player were in the last days and it moved very quickly.

a Louis played a big part in the decision. I worked with Louis for four years myself and I know he was very happy with Memphis after the World Cup and had a lot of confidence in him.

a He is the right coach for Memphis because hea s great with young players who can learn a lot.a
