It might only be the second game of a 38-match season, but Manchester Citya s Raheem Sterling believes Sundaya s meeting with champions Chelsea FC will be vital to his new teama s chances of regaining the Premier League title

Raheem Sterling signed for Manchester City in a 49 million GBP deal after a summer saga that threatened to drag on, only for City to meet Liverpool FC’s demand and put an end to it.

Since then, Sterling has gone on to start for City in their opening day 3-0 victory over West Brom, where he made a pretty decent impression for the Citizens.

Sterling hoping to beat Chelsea FC

City’s next fixtures sees them take on Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea FC, who drew their opening game 2-2 at home. Sterling believes that it is important the Citizens beat them if they are to win the title this season.

As quoted by the official Manchester City website, Sterling said:

a Ia m hoping this one will go our way and ita s vital that it does. Wea re on our own ground and with it being our first home game of the season, we want to get off on the right foot.

a Ia ve done alright against them in the past and results-wise, I think ita s been pretty even overall so far in the matches Ia ve played in.

a Chelsea are very strong in every department from their defence and midfield to their attack, but it should be a good game and Ia m really looking forward to playing in this match.a

Sterling predicts close title race

The 20-year-old went onto add that he expects a close title race, unlike last season where Chelsea finished eight points clear of City without ever being troubled. He has also set himself personal goals and assists targets but is unwilling to reveal them.

a Ita s going to be a really tough season,a Sterling added. a Everyone has strengthened their squads and the Premier League is always hard to second guess.

a The only promise I will make is that I will try my best at all times a I will aim to create and score as many goals as I can for the team and work really hard every week.

a Ia ve set myself targets for goals and assists and I know where I want to be but I dona t really want to reveal what they are because Ia ll put myself under massive pressure a but Ia ve got personal goals that I want to reach this season for City and hopefully I can meet them.a
