Salford City FC, the club that is owned by Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, has just got their new sponsors, in the form of Umbro, presumably with the help of the former players.
The Manchester-based kit manufacturers have struck a five-year deal with the semi-professional club, and would be looking to build on their history with the co-owners of Salford City, for their marketing procedures.
Giggs, Butt, Scholes, and the Neville brothers were a part of the famous ‘Class of 92’, at 20-time Premier League champions Manchester United, and had all graduated out of the club’s youth system, along with English football star David Beckham.
This group of players have achieved the famous ‘Treble’ (winning the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League), in 1999, and have been famously pictured with the trophies, wearing Manchester United kits that have been designed by Umbro. They have also represented England, when the national team was sponsored by the Manchester-based kit-makers.
“To have someone of Umbro’s caliber is fantastic and highlights what we are trying to achieve at the club,” said Salford City FC chairman Karen Baird, to Manchester Evening News. “Their experience in designing stylish and technical sportswear is outstanding and the team are really enjoying wearing the new kit.”
Salford had reportedly already been wearing Umbro kits, while the negotiations were going on, and news of the five-year deal just reaffirms the faith the kit-makers have in the non-league team.
a We are proud to work with teams of all levels in leagues across the world a especially those who share our passion and commitment to the game,” said Paul Nugent, a representative of Umbro.
This deal is set to put Salford City FC, at a great advantage, as not many non-league clubs have such tie-ups with brands as big as Umbro. However, the club has a long history (75 years of it), and would be looking to build on these latest developments, to climb the ladders of English football.
