Former FC Barcelona star Thiery Henry has praised the consistency of Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the Frenchman believes that his ex-teammate Leo Messi is a better player than the Portuguese international.
The rivalry between El Clasico rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi has become a topic of intense debate across the globe and now, Arsenal legend Thiery Henry has intensified the same by claiming that the Argentine international is a better player than the CR7.
The duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have claimed last seven Ballon da Or awards between them. Messi has won it on four times in a row while Cristiano Ronaldo has put his name on the award in 2008, 2014 and 2015.
Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi for Ballon da Or on last two occassions but Henry believes that individual accolades mean little for him.
“I played alongside Leo Messi, so therea s my answer,” Thiery Henry replied when asked by Fifa.com which one of the two he prefers. “I have an enormous amount of respect for Cristiano Ronaldo, as someone who maintains such a high level for several years.
“Ita s one thing to have a good season, and then have another four years later but to keep up with that level for consecutive years is something else. People realise it, of course, but I feel like we still dona t grasp the real measure of what these two are doing. In the future, people will look back in awe at the continuity, the goals and the pressure that comes along with doing this for so long.
“So I’m full of respect for Ronaldo, but I played with Leo Messi and had extraordinary moments with him, we lost and won together, so that is all I have to say on Leo Messi.”
