Manchester United’s Spanish international attacker Juan Mata has dedicated the Southampton win to injured team mates Luke Shaw. Writing in his blog, Mata backed the left-back who broke his foot against PSV Eindhoven to come back stronger.

Manchester United won 3-2 at St. Mary’s, with Juan Mata one of the players on target in the hard fought win.Southampton had led United 1-0 through a goal by Graziano Pelle, but, goals from Anthony Martial (2) and Juan Mata saw United take a comfortable 3-1 lead going in to final minutes. However, a consolation goal by Pelle meant United had an uncomfortable last few minutes.

Mata dedicates win to Shaw

Luke Shaw had a double fracture on his leg in the midweek UEFA Champions League loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The England international is not expected to feature again for United before March 2016. Mata, who had posted an emotional message for the English left-back following the loss in Holland, penned another emotional message for Shaw in his official blog.

He wrote:

“In short, it was an important and very special win. Everybody knows that last Tuesday was a bad day for us. Because of the defeat but, especially, because of Luke Shaw’s terribly serious injury.

“He was very unlucky and suffered a double fracture of his right leg; all of us felt his pain. That’s why we wanted to dedicate a victory to him as soon as possible, to make him feel happy, at least momentarily, and it came this very Sunday.

“I’m sure he will be back stronger, and he will work hard to be with us soon. He was having a great start this season, helping us a lot. All our support to you, my friend, you know we are here with you.”
