Liverpool have identified Swiss Midfielder Granit Xhaka, who is currently playing in the Champions League and Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach, as one of their top transfer window targets.

23-year-old defensive midfielder Granit Xhaka is one in a long line of Bundesliga players who are rumored to be on their way to Liverpool since the arrival of former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp. The player is estimated to cost them around 20 million pounds, should the move be made.

Bild links Xhaka to Anfield

German newspaper Bild has linked the 23-year-old Swiss player with a transfer to Anfield in a move that would help strengthen Liverpool’s midfield, according to“The Switzerland international has impressed since moving from Basel to Borussia-Park three years ago and Jurgen Klopp is apparently keen on the defensive-minded player to come to Anfield in the near future. Xhaka has won 19/56 tackles in the Bundesliga this season,” they reported.

Liverpool’s Defensive Guard

Liverpool need to shore up their defence in the near future if they are to make a serious attempt for the league title, and a defensive minded midfielder is the need of the hour at Anfield. The recent underwhelming performances by the otherwise promising Emre Can have made the urgency for a backup a top priority.

Although only 23 years of age, Xhaka has been a full international for Switzerland since 2011 and has earned himself 30 caps along the way. This would prove to be an ideal mix of youth and experience for the Liverpool side.
