Liverpool are lining up a sizeable offer for AS Roma man Miralem Pjanic as they look at targets to replace their departing captain.

Brace yourselves! Liverpool are going to be linked with a lot of players as potential “Steven Gerrard replacements” in the wake of the Merseyside team’s talismanic captain announcing his departure in the summer.

Manchester City’s James Milner has been linked with Liverpool since the summer, and rumors have started circling again amidst his lingering contract situation at City right now. He is being reported as the Reds’ man to replace Gerrard. Miralem Pjanic is latest to join him.

Reports in Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian media outlet, suggest they the Reds have prepared an offer of €30m for the club. They do add that Roma’s current title campaign means that the club is unwilling to discuss a move until the end of the season. Pjanic currently earns €3.6m a year, and Liverpool are said to be offering €4m to the player.

Pjanic would not be a direct replacement for Gerrard in his original and old role, but he would be a fantastic one in his current deep lying playmaker role. The Bosnian international has tremendous technical qualities and is an old fashioned deep lying playmaker who dictates proceedings from the middle. He has made a name for himself for his abilities in the heart of the pitch. The 24 year old possesses great passing and dribbling skills. He is creative and his good vision allows him to thread clever passes and link up play with the attackers. His free-kicks are also good so his potential addition could get Liverpool a wonderful Gerrard replacement.

The ongoing season will be Pjanic’s fourth one with Roma.

THT Verdict- Liverpool should push for this deal in the summer

Liverpool would definitely not be getting the player this winter as he likes life in Rome and would not be willing to give up a title challenge to join eighth placed Liverpool in the Premier League. But the Reds must persist with this deal in the summer and really hard to land this player as he would be great addition in the side. Brendan Rodgers’ midfield has been average at best and desperately requires a player of top class quality, someone who can keep things ticking from the centre. Pjanic would do that, and more. However, much of it would depend on where Roma and Liverpool end their seasons. If Roma end up having a big season, there is slight possibility of the player switching sides. Liverpool too, would probably definitely miss out on the Bosnian if they finish outside of the top 4 and without anything worthwhile to offer the talented 24 year old.
