Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho has said that Eden Hazard was a better player last year than Cristiano Ronaldo because of Real Madrid star’s lack of trophies while stating that FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is the best player in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo played under Jose Mourinho during his spell at Real Madrid. The Real Madrid superstar has cemented his place among the top two players in the world alongside FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for sometime, now.

But despite his 61 goal haul in all competitions for Real Madrid, the Spanish giants failed to win any major trophies last season.
.

‘Ronaldo not among the top two players in the world anymore’

Mourinho reckons the lack of trophy with Real Madrid means “fantastic” Cristiano Ronaldo drops down below Eden Hazard who was also “fantastic”

When asked if Ronaldo and Messi were the undisputed top two, Mourinho was quoted saying to the Guardian:

“They have to win some titles, no? Football without titles is nothing. Messi won the treble. He won three competitions last year, he reached the Copa Am rica final. He had a fantastic season for him and for his team.”

“I dona t like players or managers to win individual trophies without the team.”

When asked if Ronaldo was no longer among the top two players in the world, Mourinho replied: “I think so. I dona t like players or managers to win individual trophies without the team.”

‘Hazard better than Ronaldo’

Asked if Chelsea FC star Eden Hazard, who scored 19 times for the Premier League champions, had surprassed Ronaldo behind Messi last season due to the Real Madrid man’s lack of trophies, Mourinho agreed.

“Last season, yes. In spite of the fact that Ronaldo was fantastic. He was fantastic. He scored an incredible number of goals. I am not saying he is not fantastic. I am just saying that, in my personal view, every football player in the world should understand that a team has to be in front and no titles [are important].”

‘Messi the best’

While Hazard and Ronaldo debate rages on, Mourinho believes there is no doubt Lionel Messi is the the number one player in the world is, right now.

He said: “Football without titles is nothing. Messi won the treble. He won three competitions last year, he reached the Copa America final. He had a fantastic season for him and for his team.”
