Hailing the appointment of Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool FC manager Gerard Houllier has revealed that the German could not stop talking about the Reds when the duo used to meet during UEFA meetings.
Gerrard Houllier was received with much aplomb at Anfield when he became the manager during late 90s. The French man was a Liverpool fan through and through, having watched many games from the Kop back in 70s and 80s, none more so than the incredible game against St. Ettiene.
Having enjoyed a hero’s status during and after his time at Anfield, Houllier has backed the current Anfield boss to succeed, too.
Klopp a Liverpool FC fan?
Houllier revealed that during his meetings with the German for UEFA’s events, Klopp could not stop asking about the Reds.
Houllier was quoted saying by Liverpool Echo: a Jurgen has personality. I know Jurgen from UEFA meetings and he has always liked Liverpool. He had a passion for the club.
“He was always talking about Liverpool; what we did, how we lived. I can tell you he was a true fan of Liverpool and he was following the results before going there.
a In a way, he will bring something different. And the way he plays is a very modern way; high pressing, offensive football and quick transition.a
Liverpool FC have enjoyed a fairly good start under Klopp. However, the good results against City, Spurs and Chelsea are now in the past.
With the Reds struggling to beat Swansea, and then failing to win any of their games against Newcastle United, FC Sion and West Brom, there is still a lot of work to be done before the Merseysiders can truly start challenging the big guns in the Premier League. However, the signs have been very encouraging and there is a real sense of optimism at Anfield once again.
Is he the right man? Time, or rather, results will tell.
