Barcelona are “probably” going to announce the signing of Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan this week, indicate reports in Germany.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Dortmund midfielder but Barcelona have also been continuously kept in the loop in these transfer rumors.
Its also been claimed that the midfielder’s personal preference was a move to Barcelona, but the club’s transfer ban makes it complicated and Dortmund don’t want to lose the player – who has one year left on his contract and has refused an extension – on a free transfer to Barcelona next year. They would hence prefer him going to Manchester United who would pay money right away.
It must be noted that Barcelona can indeed sign players at the moment but they can’t register them. They already did it with Sevilla’s Alex Vidal. In that case, the 25 year-old will have to wait till January to play for Barcelona.
According to German outlet, SportBild, Barcelona will “probably” announce Gundogan’s transfer soon.
This seems like a highly unlikely proposition and with the report being highly ambiguous, it just seems as another rumor.
Manchester United are probably still leading the race for the player, and it might be an attempt by the club or a representative to get them to act quicker.
