Newly recruited Italian right back Matteo Darmian put in a virtuoso performance on debut as Manchester United got off to a winning start in the opening match of the 2015-16 Premier League Season

A Kyle Walker own goal gave Manchester United an unconvincing 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs in the English Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford. Italian full back Matteo Darmiana s performance on his debut was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise insipid display put in by the Red Devils.

Darmian displayed great athleticism as he breathlessly bombed down the right flank throughout the match, showed great composure when in possession and didna t shy away from making a tackle when the need arose.

Darmian’s impressive debut for Manchester United didna t go unnoticed by Manager Louis Van Gaal, who singled him out for praise in his post match comments. “I liked the performance of Matteo Darmian. He played a good match in the Spurs half and when they had the ball, plus he didn’t lose the ball much and was very good in his ball position with the opponent. When I have to think of one player, it’s him, as he was the best performer”, said Van Gaal.

He was eventually voted as the “Man of the Match” by the Club.

And of course, the a twitteratia werena t far behind either in hurling endless praise upon the United debutant, ranging from the ecstatic….

…… to the bizarre……..

……. to just plain ridiculous.
