The Belgian keeper put on a masterclass in Chelsea FC’s 0-0 draw at Manchester United, but the bad season the Blues are having has reportedly prompted Courtois to seek greener pastures.

Real Madrid are looking to sign a new world-class goalkeeper after the departure of Iker Casillas despite Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas putting up some stellar displays for the club , and they have their eye on Chelsea FC’s undisputed No. 1 — 23-year-old Thibaut Courtois.

Spanish publication Okdiario.com had this to say on Courtois: “As recognized sources close to Real Madrid say, Thibaut Courtois has expressed his interest in a move to the Santiago Bernabeu several times. The Belgian goalkeeper wants to leave England and return to the capital of Spain, where he lived and played for Atletico Madrid.”

“It is not the first time Courtois’ agents contacted Real Madrid and he also privately wanted a move when he was wearing the red and white of Atletico. The fact that Jorge Mendes, although not his agent, has influence over the player could facilitate the transfer, but it must be emphasized that communications are by the will of the player who wants to leave London, despite being a permanent fixture at Stamford Bridge.”

De Gea Still Number One Target

Courtois’ opposite number in the ChelseaFC-Manchester United match remains Real Madrid’s primary target though, as the botched transfer last summer is not expected to deter Real Madrid from pursuing David de Gea. The Spaniard has signed a new 4-year deal for Manchester United, but there remains the belief that it also includes a release clause.

Okdiario are of the opinion that a bid of 40-50 million Euros could entice the Spaniard to head back home.

The publication reports: “The famous fax came late and the goalkeeper was forced to stay and renew with Manchester United. However, the basis for the signing are still there, as his contract with Real Madrid was already drafted and signed.” .
