Chelsea FC have made a new offer for Atletico Madrid’s Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, offering Filipe Luis in a chance to return back to Atletico Madrid in exchange, as per reports in The Times.
The defender, who spent the season on loan at Southampton put in some assured display and is being sought after by Chelsea FC for sometime now as had been reported earlier, with the club plotting a 14 million offer.
Southampton can sign the player for A?7m as per the agreement in the loan clause with Atletico Madrid. However, another clause in A?11m-rated defendera s loan deal means Atletico Madrid must pay Southampton up to A?3m compensation if he moves permanently to any other club driving his price up to A?14m if any deal has to materialize.
According to report in The Times, Southampton will take up their option of their loan agreement to sign Alderweireld, 26, on a permanent deal for about A?7 million, but Atletico will exercise a counter-clause that allows them to cancel the agreement by paying about A?3 million to the south coast side should the Belgian move to another club.
Atletico Madrid feel that they can sell Alderweireld for upwards of A?15 million amid strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who are willing to offer the likes of tienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado as part of any deal.

Chelsea FCa s pursuit for a defender is well documented with an ageing central defensive partnership of Cahill and Terry and left back Filipe Luis failing to settle in London. While Alderweireld has made it clear he wants to stay in England, Filipe Luis is also hoping for a move back to Spain having made only 9 starts following a A?15.8 million move from Atletico Madrid.
The move can very well happen with all the four parties involved looking for a solution with an exchange between Alderweireld and Filipe Luis suiting both Atletico Madrid and Chelsea FC.
