Chelsea FC completed the signing of Ghana international Abdul Baba Rahman from FC Augsburg on Sunday, with the transfer announced by the Blues shortly after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Manchester City

Much of the fallout from the game at the Etihad revolved around Serbian right-back and new vice-captain Branislav Ivanovi who faced a torrid time against Raheem Sterling, a week after being given the run-around by Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero.

Chelsea FC fans are quickly losing patience with Ivanovi , and the signing of Abdul Baba Rahman has prompted suggestions for current left-back C sar Azpilicueta to move to the right, with the new signing slotting in at left-back.

Manager Jos Mourinho is unlikely to make that move as early as this weekend, but it is definitely something the Stamford Bridge faithful could see with increasing frequency. An attacking left-back would add another dimension to the Chelsea FC attack, and might even help increase the effectiveness of Belgian wizard Eden Hazard on that flank.

Chelsea FC fans called for Branislav Ivanovi to be dropped

The poor start made by the Serbian international means that he has been the target of a lot of criticism from Chelsea FC fans, who are eager for Mourinho to now use Baba Rahman on the left flank. Others, meanwhile, have come to the defence of Ivanovi , reminding their peers what the Serb has achieved in his time at the club.

Although it might not be wise to make wholesale changes to the back four overnight, the team would likely benefit in the long term from proper planning to phase out what is an ageing defence, and replace it with one that would be younger but still competitive at the highest level.

For now, Chelsea FC fans want to see a change at right-back, and the singing of Baba Rahman now at least makes that a possibility.
