Having added Juan Mata to the squad, Manchester United manager David Moyes is not one to take things easy, especially after a disastrous start to his career as the Red Devils’ boss. Sitting on the 7th spot, David Moyes has indicated that he is not shying away from bringing new players to the club. One such player who has been linked with a move to United is Bayern Munich’s Tony Kroos whose current contract expires in 2015.
David Moyes was present for Bayern Munich’s match against Borussia Moenchengladbach where he met with one of Kroos’ advisers, according to the Daily Mail. According to reports, Tony Kroos is unhappy with his current wages and is demanding £150,000 a week in his current contract negotiations, which has led to a stalemate.
The 24-year old German midfielder has reportedly declared that he is keeping his options open and is in no rush to enter into negotiations with his current club. With only 18 months left in his contract, he admitted to Kicker-Sportmagazin that no further talks have been scheduled between him and the club officials.
“I am unable to rule anything out, I am under contract with Bayern Munich (until June 2015). Actually there are yet no further talks (regarding a new contract) scheduled. I will therefore fully focus on the second half of the season. There are worse situations in life. I play for a top club, and under a top coach. I am pleased, and sometime in the future a decision will be made.”
Chief Executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that talks between the club and the player have reached a standstill, adding that it is ‘always about money in these negotiations.’ Though Bayern Munich do have a reputation of banking on their financial clout to get the players they want, their negotiations with Tony Kroos might turn tricky with the German midfielder making it quite clear that he is keeping his options open.
An important member in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad, Kroos has been involved in each and every Bundesliga fixture, which stands testimony to the faith Guardiola has bestowed over the German midfielder. Often deployed as an attacking midfielder, Tony Kroos is equally adept at holding the fort, playing as a Central Midfielder. Hence, it will be extremely surprising if Bayern Munich let a player of Tony Kroos’ calibre slip out of their hands. Though Bayern Munich do have a plethora of talent to choose from, Tony Kroos’ contribution in the midfield remains unmatched.
While Manchester United will be extremely keen on meeting his wage requirements and getting him on the roster, it will be interesting to see exactly how much David Moyes is willing to spend on the midfielder to bring him to Old Trafford. A versatile and energetic midfielder, Tony Kroos has the ability to move ahead with the ball and create chances for his teammates along with the ability to fall back and put in a crucial tackle or two.
He will be a valuable addition at Manchester United and will help galvanise a seemingly distraught squad. His partnership with Carrick in the middle, with Mata, Janujaz, Rooney and Robin Van Persie upfront, will transform United into one of the most threatening teams in Europe. But to make Pep Guardiola part with one of his star midfielders is no mean job after all and it remains to be seen if David Moyes is upto the task.
