English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Italian Serie A side SS Napoli, are in discussions over Brazil International Sandro Raniere.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to reshuffle their packs after the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as their head coach. The Argentine has a reputation of playing high intensity games, and is known for strict training methods. Tottenham Hotspur squad posses some players in the calibre of Emmanuel Adebayor who are talented but not hard working. Mauricio Pochettino’s methods puts some question marks over the future of such players.
Andre Villas Boas had vanished the Togo international into reserves but Tim Sherwood reignited the fire into his belly, but the jury is still out on his future . On the other hand there is Sandro Raniere. The Brazilian ‘Beast‘ is a fan favourite and was one of the first names on the team sheet during the days of Harry Redknapp and Andre Villas Boas. Injuries put him on the back foot, and the arrival of Tim Sherwood at the helm of affairs pushed him further down. Tim Sherwood and Sandro were in the opposite end most of the times and it was Sandro who revealed that Tim Sherwood will be sacked at the end of the season.
The sacking of Tim Sherwood gave the impression that Sandro is likely to extend his stay at White Hart Lane. Sandro might fit well into the plans of Mauricio Pochettino as well. The defensive midfielder had missed the flight to 2014 Brazil World Cup, and as a result the rumours started flowing in linking him with SS Napoli, AS Roma and Chelsea. Brazilian will be keen on reclaiming his Selecao spot and a move cannot be (completely) ruled out for Tottenham’s Beast.
Metro reported Premier League sides Chelsea’s interest in Tottenham fan favourite Sandro but a deal with Premier League rivals looks highly unlikely. A £12 million offer was reported to be in the offing for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, but nothing materialized since then. The tough tackling, dynamic midfielder was a target of Italian Serie A sides Napoli and Roma, and his agent had announced Sandro’s admiration for Serie A.
“We know that many clubs are following Sandro. He would like to play in Serie A, it is a very important championship but now we have to wait to know if he can leave Tottenham or not.”
Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is keen on adding a defensive midfielder to his ranks. Tottenham’s Etienne Capoue was a target during January transfer window, but the potential availability of Sandro has changed his focus to the Brazilian. Napoli reportedly made a £8 million offer for The Beast but it is far away from the demands of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Goal has suggested that Napoli are willing to pay £12 million for Sandro. Italian club is ready to offer him a five-year contract worth €10 million to lure him to Serie A, while Champions League football is another attraction for him. Tottenham Hotspur are still holding on to their £16 million evaluation of Sandro, but the discussions are progressing over a potential move. It will be heartbreak for many Tottenham fans if Sandro Raniere bids adieu to the club, and Daniel Levy’s tough stands in the transfer market might help Spurs to keep their prized asset.
